The lane closures on the Gardiner Expressway will be gone by July as repair work will end three months early just ahead of the busy summer construction season, Toronto Mayor John Tory confirmed on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, road resurfacing, sewer and watermain work will once again result in countless road closures this summer but city officials are promising to do what they can to minimize the traffic disruptions.

Public Works committee chair Jaye Robinson said on Tuesday some key projects will include extended working hours, traffic signal timing changes on parallel routes and enhanced signage.

In total, 122 kilometres of road resurfacing work and 238 kilometres of sewer and watermain work will need to be completed in 2016.

The City of Toronto says it is investing more than $550 million into maintaining and upgrading its infrastructure this year.

Some of the major construction work will directly impact the downtown core and residents are being warned public transit service will also be affected.

There is some good news though. Due to the warm winter, there will be far fewer pothole repairs than usual this year.

Only 64,000 potholes are slated to be filled compared to more than 250,000 in 2015.

Below is a list of some of the major projects set aside for the summer.
