A woman in her 20s is suffering from head injuries and is in serious, potentially life-threatening condition after her vehicle drove off the road and hit a tree on Glenmore Trail, west of Crowchild Trail in southwest Calgary.
The crash happened just after 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, and closed down westbound Glenmore Trail for almost five hours.
Calgary police Acting Sergeant Jeff Leimer said they did not know what caused the woman to lose control of her vehicle.
Just after that crash there was a second collision in the opposite direction of Glenmore Trail, after a driver in the eastbound lanes tried to stop to help.
According to Leimer, the woman, “slowed down her vehicle and in doing so happened to cut across the left lane and was hit by on oncoming vehicle.”
The three people in the two vehicles involved in the second incident, were all in their 20’s and all sustained only minor injuries.
Speed and alcohol have not been ruled out as the cause of the first incident.
As of 6:15 a.m. Glenmore Trail westbound has been opened up.
Crews are continuing to investigate.
