‘It has a huge impact’: Residents living near the Turcot interchange prepare for the future

MONTREAL – Public hearings were held in the Sud-Ouest borough Tuesday for residents who live near the Turcot Interchange project.

“The Turcot Interchange is huge, it has a huge impact on the residents and it causes a lot of traffic,” borough mayor Benoît Dorais told Global News.

Officials from the borough, the transit commission and community groups were out in full force at the Paradox Theatre to answer questions.

The city is working on a new development plan for the area.

    Officials are looking for input from residents about what they want to see as their community changes.

    “I’m concerned most about the traffic and pollution, I want to see more activities for families and businesses on Monk Street,” said Ville Emard resident Pascale Toupin.

    A second phase for hearings will take place on May 24.

    Residents have until May 19 to submit their request to present at the hearing.

    A final development plan for the area will be in place by September 2017.
