The Global News Hour at 6 is on the road Thursday April 28 to explore some of Calgary’s newest and most southern neighbourhoods: Cranston, Seton, Auburn Bay and Mahogany. Gord Gillies and Linda Olsen will be live at the South Health Campus.

The community of Cranston is adjacent to an environmental reserve, dedicated to preserving Fish Creek Provincial Park.

Stretching 19 kilometres from east to west, Fish Creek is considered North America’s largest urban park. Residents in the area often take advantage of the vast trail system.

New schools are opening in both Cranston and Auburn Bay within the next year to address the increase in families moving to south Calgary.

The Auburn Bay Elementary School is scheduled to open for September and the Dr. George Stanley Middle School is scheduled to open in January 2017.

Seton is a mixed-use development spanning 365-acres. It’s also home to Calgary’s South Health Campus, which opened its emergency department in 2013.

The hospital champions its focus on families by having no restrictions on visiting hours. Every hospital room includes a place for a loved one to spend the night.

Mahogany is located on the southeastern edge of Calgary and surrounds the city’s largest freshwater lake. The neighbourhood also features paved pathways stretching 22 kilometres.
